About This Edition: New Features New: A video created specifically for Horizons, "Les Stagiaires," integrates the vocabulary and grammar from each chapter into a storyline of two new interns working at an office. Their daily interactions and adventures with their coworkers depict real-life uses of French in a variety of situations, allowing students to practice listening skills with the vocabulary and structures they have studied up to that point. Brief episodes appearing in the "Reprise" section of each chapter are accompanied by viewing activities. New: The "Sélections Musicales" sections have been expanded to include the use of French music as an engaging way to teach culture, grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. In addition to the presentation and activities occurring after every two chapters, there will now be student notes in each "Compétence" suggesting francophone songs that illustrate the use of the vocabulary or grammar being studied. These songs are all easily found and downloadable via iTunes˜, and include a variety of types of music from different francophone countries. In the new edition, these student notes are called "Sélections Musicales," and the more extensive treatment of songs with pre- and post-listening activities found every other chapter were renamed "Interlude Musical." Over half of the songs in these sections have been replaced with new selections. New: Pronunciation activities have been added after each pronunciation explanation providing students with additional practice opportunities of this important skill. New: A completely new art program and interior design. Illustrations have been updated and redrawn with a more consistent and contemporary-looking style. Updated: The geo-cultural openers, along with the "Notes Culturelles" and end-of-chapter "Comparaisons Culturelles," have been updated to present the very latest cultural evolutions. Updated: The Workbook / Lab Manual has been reorganized into one complete Student Activities Manual, with the listening / speaking practice and the writing activities for each "Compétence" grouped together, instead of in separate sections. New: A new, more robust testing program provides a greater variety of testing options. Explore additional features of Horizons, Fifth Edition.
